Ronnie Montrose rocks. No, not rocked - past tense - he still rocks my house, always will.
Motherfucker played on The Edgar Winter Group's "Frankenstein" and that's one fucking monster jam that I never tire of. And the second Montrose album - Paper Money - man, that's a perennial ever-green favourite in the 1973 Shedverse. A great album, in my over-opinionated opinion. You guys'll prob. hate it, but that's not my problem.
Montrose ruled. One of the great semi-forgotten bands. They were a prototype for Boston, I reckon, and almost certainly for Van Halen. Ronnie also formed / played gtr in the underrated (and hugely unfashionable) late-70's Hard Rock outfit Gamma.
For every bloated tosser like Dave Gilmour there's a dozen barely-remembered / under-celebrated hard-rockin' heroes like Ronnie Montrose. And - dammit! - while this blog exists I will make it my personal mission that they do not pass unremembered.
Ronnie Montrose rocks.
